LIFE is such a precious thing and the power of faith and determination is unquestionable.

It was with sadness yesterday we learnt about the passing of Mac Werner, a man who dedicated so much of his life saving others through Dads in Distress.

"Mac Werner manned the phone lines for around 10 years," DIDS founder Tony Miller, OAM, wrote in tribute to his mate.

"He was a big man with a big heart. Mac talked down literally hundreds if not thousands over the years from suicide.

"He just did what he had to do. While many burnt out Mac just kept going until the big heart finally gave in."

Dads in Distress will today celebrate the life of a man, described as "a true, Australian, a true lifesaver and a true hero".
